The new library is scheduled to have two AWE Early Literacy Stations funded by the Friends of the Library. One has already arrived and is proving to be a popular addition to the Children’s area, especially with preschoolers and primary grade students and their parents.

It is a self-contained computer system preloaded with twenty-six top-rated educational software titles such as Jump Start, Reader Rabbit, SpongeBob Squarepants Typing, Between the Lions, Dr. Seuss, Microsoft Paint and several Encarta Programs to help with homework.

A wide range of subjects and skills can be learned. Librarians have observed children practicing their pointing and clicking skills with a mouse, creating pictures of mermaids in an ocean scene, and looking up information on ancient Mayans because “I just like this kind of stuff”.
