Our Homework Assistance Center will open Tuesday, September 4th. But until then, you can get help online—our Live Homework Help never takes a day off! You get free help from real, live tutors right from the library via the Internet!  Live Homework Help is available for 4th – 12th grade and college introductory level students from 1:00-10:00pm every day all year long.  Children and young adults visiting the library simply log in via a link on the Alameda County website homepage. Those at home will have to log in with their library card number first, and then enter their grade level and the subject they need help in. They will be connected to an expert tutor within a few minutes. Students can receive help in math, science, social studies or English. To learn more about the service, call the library at 510-670-6280.

Ten in the Bed Storytime

It has been a real treat to have the Hayward Parents’ Nursery School conduct our weekly storytimes during the month of August! Each week they feature a single story with related activities and do a fun craft. Join us this Wednesday at 11am for their final appearance when they will present The Princess and the Pea.

Bowling for prizesBowling for prizesBowling for prizes

Over the past two months, over 1400 “Get a Clue” participants logged thousands upon thousands of hours of reading time. With invaluable help from our Kid Power volunteers, another Summer Reading Game was a resounding success.

As a way of thanking our Kid Power Volunteers for the fantastic job they did over the summer, we held a party to celebrate their efforts.  They ate pizza, hung out with friends, played carnival-style games, and won prizes, all of which were donated by library patrons, staff members, and community businesses.

Pyzano’s Pizzeria graciously gave us a great deal on the pizza that was a treat from the Friends of the Library.  Also, through a joint effort, the Friends secured gift certificates from Knudson’s Creamery at a special price, so that each Kid Power volunteer could have an ice cream sundae. A good time was had by all, and our mascot, Ike, found a new home with one of our Reading Buddies!

Ike goes home with Calley

In closing, a BIG thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, donated, and contributed to make this the most successful Summer Reading Game ever at Castro Valley.
