We’ve moved on.  Rebar is going in, and concrete is being poured.  I’m told by construction Management West’s, Project Field Adminstrator Amy Chrzanowska that Castro Valley community members walk by and watch construction on a regular basis.  She told me that recently a group on moms with kids in strollers came over and watched for an hour.

For those who haven’t been by lately here’s a picture.

Kid Power table

Kid Power volunteers are ready and waiting for you to sign up for our Summer Reading Game “Catch the Reading Bug”. They will give you a game board and explain what you need to do to win prizes! Go “Bingo” and win a “Don’t Bug Me–I’m Reading!” door hanger, free passes to the Lawrence Hall of Science and to the Charles M. Schulz Museum (where you can walk the Snoopy maze and see Charlie Brown’s kite-eating tree), a coupon for a personal size pizza from Round Table, and a temporary tattoo from Eden Bikes. Continue reading until you have blacked out all the spaces on the board and win a book bag, a book, a San Francisco Giants squishball or a “Wall Art” removable bug sticker, and a poster from Eden Bikes.

We also have a fun lineup of children’s events every Monday at 2pm from June 16th through August 11th. This Monday, come see ventriloquist Randel McGee & Groark, and pick up a flyer with the full listings!

Signups for the Summer Reading Game “Catch the Reading Bug” start on June 9th.  If you are going into the 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade we would like you to help children sign up and play the game this summer. All you need to do is get permission from your parents and attend a training session on either Thursday, June 5th or Monday, June 9th at 3:30pm in the Children’s area of the library. Information and application forms are available at the library. Call 670-6280 if you have any questions.

We had a strong showing from last year’s Kid Power volunteers at the first training session on June 3rd. Thank you for returning–we look forward to seeing you again as Kid Power PLUS helpers!

New this year is an online calendar of available openings to make it easier to sign up! You will find the calendar at http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=7ohaptfvps04nhb6sufhac3ass%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/Los_Angeles . Just click on the “Week” tab to see what days and times are available for the current week.
