San Jose State MLS student and Assumption School librarian Alice Franco has had a chance to see how a public library works over the past few months. You may have seen her on the Children’s desk, in the Homework Center or presenting a storytime. Now that she has finished her internship, we asked her to say a few words about her experience!
Alice's Soup Time Storytime
Working at the Castro Valley Library has been an eye opener. The instant immersion into the everyday workings of a vibrant public library has been an invaluable addition to my experience. Despite the hectic pace and necessity of balancing a variety of tasks, I have enjoyed working with the public and am in awe of the staff, who seem to be able to maintain their composure while coping with constantly changing challenges. Everyone has been very helpful, supportive, and friendly. I had some trepidation about working in a public library setting, but now look forward to getting a “real” public library job some day.
