ReadFortheWinBannerAlameda County Library’s annual Summer Reading Game, READ FOR THE WIN, begins June 13. There will be separate games for Pre-readers, Kids, Teens and Adults. And this year patrons can play online by registering at summer.aclibrary.org.

Library patrons can sign up at any of the Alameda County Library’s branches, including Castro Valley, to play the traditional paper-based Summer Reading Game. Online players can simply visit summer.aclibrary.org to register. All players will keep track of time spent reading and completing fun activities.

And of course there will be prizes and free books for finishers, in addition to exciting raffle prizes for Teens and Adults at each branch! Adults who finish the game are automatically entered into a drawing for a FitBit health and fitness tracker and teen finishers will be entered into a drawing for a GoPro camera.

Summer reading programs are an important part of library programming because evidence shows that children typically regress academically over the long summer holiday.  And, youth who practice their reading skills over the summer break return to school better equipped to continue their studies.  Adult participation is critical because research shows the best way to get your children to read is to let them see you reading.

This program is presented by the Alameda County Library, with support from the Alameda County Library Foundation.  Other sponsors include the Chabot Space and Science Center, The Lawrence Hall of Science, LEGOLAND, Oakland Athletics, and GoPro.
