 For one week each October the Northern California Decorative Artists celebrate National Tole Week.  During this week the group promotes awareness of decorative painting by hosting displays in the libraries.  The current display was created by local chapter members Nadine, Pam and Linda and will be in the library’s dispay case until Monday, November 17th

    Bill Wood has been collecting sea otters; carvings, photographs, stuffed animals and more for more than 40 years.  Most of his collection comes from the Monterey/Pacific Grove area.  It has been a slow process Bill says, because some years he finds only one or two items to add and some years none at all.  His collection will be in the library’s display case until June 2nd.

Journal Writing for Seniors Workshop

                                       Open to adults 55+

                      Thursdays, March 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th

African American Quilt Display

African American quilts  This month’s display is provided by the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland.  The Guild was created to preserve and continue the tradition of quilting.  Their goal is to contribute to the knowledge and appreciation of fine quilts and quilting.  The group meets on the 4th Saturday of each month at the West Oakland Public Library, 1801 Adeline St. Oakland, CA.   Castro Valley resident Marion Coleman coordinated the display.  She is one of the artists whose work has been selected to be a permanent part of the new Castro Valley Library.  The Display will be in the library until February 22nd and will help us celebrate Black History Month.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           


Tax Forms at the Library

tax-form-picture.jpg  As in past years the Castro Valley Library will provide tax forms in the lobby of the library.  Due to the change in the law concerning the Alternative Minimum Tax some taxpayers will be unable to file until after Februry 11th.  For more information on this development check the IRS website  Tax forms will be available in the library until April 25th.

Annual Castro Valley Citizens for Middle Eastern Awareness Holiday Display

Castro Valley Citizens for Middle Eastern Awareness 

Sarhar and Ruth, members of Castro Valley Citizens for Middle Eastern Awareness, a group of Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Palestinian women have created a beautiful display representing the way in which the holidays are celebrated by the three main religions of the Middle East.  This is the seventh year the group has provided a holiday display for the library.  The display will be in the library until January 7th.  Questions about the group or the display can be e-mailed to:

4-H Display at the Library

4-h-display.jpgGet an early head’s up on National 4-H week (October 6-13) by checking out 4-H member Amelia A’s display in the Castro Valley Library Display Case.  The display includes samples of 4-H craft as well as prize winning examples of knitting, stained glass and a dragon sculpture. Bay Area Basket Makers Display

baskets.jpgNext time you’re in the library check out the new display of baskets made by the Bay Area Basket Makers.  Library user Tracy Vincent brought in the display which includes one of her own creations as well as many others made by the other members of the group.  The baskets will be in the library’s display case from August 27th to September 20th.
