Kid Power Volunteers ready to help

Final Prize Winner!

During the past two months, over 1600 “Make a Splash–Read!” participants logged thousands upon thousands of hours of reading time. More than 960 first prizes  and 680 final prizes were given out here at Castro Valley Library alone. In addition to helping at the Summer Reading Game table, some of our volunteers were Reading Buddies or Program Assistants, or helped us catch up with shelving of the DVDs and picture books. With this invaluable help from our Kid Power volunteers, another Summer Reading Game was a resounding success.

As a way of thanking our Kid Power Volunteers for the fantastic job they did over the summer, we held a party to celebrate their efforts.  They ate pizza, hung out with friends, and won prizes, all of which were donated by library patrons, staff members, and community businesses. Everyone had a chance to win a book from one of the hottest series–Diary of a Wimpy Kid or The Lightning Thief.  And compliments of Oracle, each Kid Power volunteer who completed eight hours or more received two tickets to a San Francisco Giants game–woo-hoo!

Pizza Express graciously gave us a great deal on the pizza that was a treat from the Friends of the Library.  The Friends also provided the funding for a magician, Ash K. The Pretty Good, for our post-pizza entertainment. A good time was had by all.

In closing, a BIG thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, donated, and contributed to make this the most successful Summer Reading Game ever at Castro Valley.
